Synopsis:
Three simple words were all it took to change their lives forever.
Losing a loved one is hard. Learning to survive in their absence? That’s even harder. For Gemma Michaels, life had become difficult following her brother’s death, but the one thing that kept her afloat was the one thing she knew she shouldn’t have desired – her best friend, Ben.
He’d made a promise to her brother – to protect her, no matter what. For Ben, that had meant that she was off limits. But then she slips and tells him the three words he’s been waiting to hear.
Love happens when you least expect it.

Oh, and how about an excerpt?!
“If you’re trying to charm my pants off of me, it isn’t going to work, Nate.”At least, I hoped he wouldn’t succeed. Again. On one hand, the last thing I needed was to repeat the same mistake. On the other hand? I was single, and I did have needs. Of course, Nate’s model looks certainly didn’t help to keep my mind from considering his earlier proposal. And this is why you don’t drink around Nate, I told myself.
“Get your mind out of the gutter, Gem, geez,” he joked. I dropped my hands from his neck and shoved him gently in his chest before he grabbed my wrists, pulling me to where he stood. “I’m serious. You have convinced yourself my idiot cousin can do better than you. You seem to think that you can’t compete with the other girls, but it’s utter bullshit.”“It’s not bullshit; it’s called accepting the reality of the situation,” I said.“You’re so much more than those other girls, Gemma. I only wish you could see what I see,” he said. A sincere smile spread upon his lips, and he released his hold on my wrists. “Don’t let your fear keep you from trying. Sometimes the things that scare us the most are exactly what we need.”
Note: The first three installments are finished and edited, so you won't have a long wait between releases! The fourth (and final!) book is currently being written and I should have it turned in to InkSpell by the end of December!

'Rebirth' is Now Available for Pre-Order on Amazon!

After months of trying to get the pre-order ready for you guys, I'm happy to say you can officially pre-order Rebirth. But! There's a catch. Although the Emile Reed Chronicles has found plenty of readers over the years, it hasn't been as successful as the Outbreak Duology in luring in new readers. Because of this, I've decided to try something new.

For the first three months upon release, Rebirth will be exclusive to Amazon. (This applies to the eBook only, the paperback will be available through multiple retailers through CreateSpace.) The reason behind this is because I feel KDP Select's promotional tools can help me promote Rebirth in a way I'd be unable to on my own. After all, this is a weird book in that it's a companion novel to my Young Adult series, but also leads more towards the New Adult crowd at times.

Once the three months are up, I will put the book up for sale on other outlets. Just be patient, please.

Now, onto the pre-order details! You can pre-order the book for $3.99 on Amazon now. (This will be the set price as it's a full-length novel.) Right now, the page count on Amazon is inaccurate and will remain inaccurate until November when I upload the actual file. I had to upload a placeholder in order to get the pre-order to go live, so just ignore that for the time being.

Here is the official synopsis:
Every story has a beginning.
Before he captured Emile Reed and turned her into Program 13, Charles McVeigh had planned to use the Vesta Corp. technology for good.
But good intentions can fade with the promise of power.
I leaned back in the chair and slid my arms through the leather straps, taking in the feel of the worn leather against my bare flesh. I couldn’t help but to think of what more my father could do with his work if he only saw the possibilities that I did.
The world as we knew it was crumbling. I watched the news daily only to see yet another mass shooting or attack being described, furious at the lack of action taken to secure our world in the aftermath. We had the ability to do something good for the world. To change it. I just needed him to see that.
We could rewire our society.
REBIRTH is a companion novel to the THE EMILE REED CHRONICLES and centers on McVeigh.

The release date is still December 19th. That will not be changing.

This will be the LAST book revolving around the Emile Reed Chronicles. I will not be writing any spin-offs, or any other companion novels. This is a one and done, but it's a fun one, I promise.

Updates: Collide #3 is Done!

So, here's a quick update post.

I promise I'm not disappearing again. In fact, I've been incredibly busy these past few months. Edits are finished on Collide #1, as is the stunning cover. (You'll be able to see that in November!) I'm going to begin edits on Collide #2 tomorrow, and I'm both nervous and excited. Nervous because my anxiety is terrible and I make myself sick when I think the editor hates something, haha. Excited because the book is pretty much done.

So, what is going on with the Collide series? Book one is still coming in December. (Woot!) And I just turned in book three on Monday. I'm taking a mini break -- about a week -- to get back to work on Rebirth, and then I'll knock out the rest of Gemma and Ben's story. There is a slim chance the series will only consist of four novellas, I'm still debating on that as it'll depend on how the story develops in the next installment. I know the ending -- I've known it from the get-go -- and the conclusion in book three pretty much sets up the series ending perfectly. If Collide #4 is the end of the series? I promise it'll be worth it!

Once I get a comfortable amount of Rebirth ready to upload for pre-orders, I'll begin sharing links for that. It is still on track for a December 19th release. I should warn that because this book focuses on McVeigh, it's more of a New Adult title rather than a Young Adult title like the rest of the Emile Reed Chronicles. It's gory at times, has some foul language, and gives a better understanding to why he's as messed up as he is in the Emile Reed Chronicles. (He actually wasn't so bad in the beginning!)

I'm trying to schedule Seraphina, but I can't give you a set release date just yet. Things need to settle down at home first. But yes, it is still coming this year. No more delays. Installments #4 and #5, introducing the other two super heroines, will come out in early 2018. As for the Guardians novella, which will see them all join forces? The release date is to be determined yet but 2018 is the plan.

Also coming in 2018? Release, the sequel to Capture. This is another book I had hoped to have ready this year, but after an unexpected surgery and other ongoing health issues, I've had to reshuffle the schedule a bit.

I'm still debating on what I want to do with the Shaden series. I really want to submit it to a few publishers as I previously mentioned, so I don't have a release date planned currently. If it gets picked up? Yay! If it doesn't? Eh, then I'll self-publish it. As of right now, I feel like it's my strongest sci-fi story to date and I'd love to find a proper home for it.

I will continue the Survival Instinct series in 2018. That series will pick up where the prequel novella left off. If you haven't read that yet? I'd suggest getting on that.

And now? I'm off to write.

(Blog Tour) REVIEW: Black Bird of the Gallows by Meg Kassel

Black Bird of the Gallows by Meg Kassel
Review Copy: Provided via NetGalley
Purchase: Amazon
Release Date: September 5th 2017 by Entangled Publishing

Description from Goodreads:
A simple but forgotten truth: Where harbingers of death appear, the morgues will soon be full.

Angie Dovage can tell there’s more to Reece Fernandez than just the tall, brooding athlete who has her classmates swooning, but she can’t imagine his presence signals a tragedy that will devastate her small town. When something supernatural tries to attack her, Angie is thrown into a battle between good and evil she never saw coming. Right in the center of it is Reece—and he’s not human.

What’s more, she knows something most don’t. That the secrets her town holds could kill them all. But that’s only half as dangerous as falling in love with a harbinger of death.

My Review:

I've been in a bit of a book rut lately, unable to find a book that has been able to maintain my interest. Then I requested Black Bird of the Gallows off of Netgalley after being sold on the stunning cover, and I'm happy to say said rut is officially over as I quickly devoured Meg Kassel's debut.

It's rare to find a truly unique read in the crowed Young Adult market these days, and yet, that's precisely what Black Bird of the Gallows is -- it's incredibly fresh and riveting. Yes, the insta-attraction in the beginning can be a bit frustrating, especially as it's followed up quickly by the now we're talking/now we're not trope. However, I urge readers to continue reading because once you get past that and things begin to kick off in a rather terrifying scene behind a club? The book dos a fantastic job at maintaining its grip on you until the very end.

There are moments that reminded me of Twilight -- which is not a knock -- especially when Reece begins to tell Angie about the Harbingers and the Beekeeper, and maybe that's why this book is so addicting. It takes an unusual relationship between a 'loner' girl and the new 'hot' guy, adds in supernatural elements, and yet manages to tell a story about so much more than that, even touching on the topic of addiction.

If you're looking for something different from the norm, give Black Bird in the Gallows a read. It'll be well worth your time.

My Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Ivy Morgan hasn't been feeling like herself lately. Not like
anyone can blame her. After all, being held captive by
a psychotic fae prince hell-bent on permanently opening the

It’s more than that, though. Something dark and insidious is

those she loves, but with an enemy she would rather kill than

Quick Update Post!

Sorry for the silence. Things are a bit hectic.

Things were a bit crazy following Hurricane Irma. Although the area of Florida I'm in didn't receive a direct hit, we did receive the "dirty side" of the storm bands and Irma managed to leave plenty of damage in her wake.

We (thankfully!) were only without power for sixteen hours, but internet was down for a lot longer so updating wasn't entirely possible. I did have my hotspot on my phone, but even that was spotty following the storm. Things are back to normal now, though, so it's update time!

The cover for Collide #1 is done and it's absolutely stunning. It was created by Najla Qamber Designs and I love, love, love it. I'm so excited for her to get to work on the cover for #2 soon, too. Unfortunately, I do not know when I can officially share the cover just yet. Once I turn in #3 this week, I'll try and find that out.

As stated above, I'm finishing up work on Collide #3 right now. This has been a hard book to write because it kind of took on a mind of its own 5k words in. Thankfully, I now only have two chapters left to write and I'm thrilled. It should be out in April 2018. (There won't be a long gap between the first three installments, so that's good!)

As for Seraphina? I intended to have that out this month, but after unexpectedly having gallbladder surgery, dealing with a hurricane, and trying to write the rest of the Collide series? I haven't had time to get that novella in shape for release. It's coming before the end of the year. Just be patient with me, please.

Now, onto Rebirth: Yes, that's still on track for December. I'm going back to work on it following Collide #3. (I'm taking a mini break before I write #4 and #5.) Pre-orders are not live yet but they're coming.

Anxiety and the Collide Series.

For those that have been following this blog for ahwile now, you'll recall that I signed on with InkSpell Publishing to release the Collide novella series beginning this December. While I've been rather quiet concerning what to expect from the series, I have shared a few teasers here and there that capture the playfulness of the books. So, I decided to do a quick blog post on Collide, which will relaunch with the first issue this December, and discuss how anxiety plays a vital part of the story being told throughout these five novella installments.

Anyone that knows me will tell you I have terrible anxiety. It's to the point that I get sick just at the thought of participating in a social activity. Going to eat with friends? Yeah, I'll be sick to my stomach the entire day and will more than likely cancel last minute. Going to a movie with people? Yep. Expect me to cancel because I can't force myself to get out of bed due to stomach pains. This is something that is normal for me; something I've struggled with since the eighth grade. (How and why my anxiety came about is not something I talk about publicly, but it wasn't a good event.) I'm on medicine, yes, but even that can only do so much.

So, with Collide tackling the subject of grief, I decided to explore what it's like living with anxiety on top of that. It makes for some heavy moments in the book, yes, but like I said, Collide is very much a light-hearted New Adult romance... so the heavy moments are spread out. That doesn't mean anxiety isn't discussed frequently throughout, especially when it comes to the third book.

For me, this series is personal because so much of what Gemma experiences in the story is stuff that I deal with on a daily basis. (Granted, she definitely handles most of it better.)

I'm currently working on edits for the first book, and I hope to have them back in to my editor within two weeks. During that time, I'm also drafting book three, which should be completed soon. After that? I'll be working with the cover designer on the covers for the first two installments. It's going to be a crazy couple of months, but I can't wait to share this series with all of you.

Even better? The wait between books will not be long. Book one will hit in December, with book two coming in January. The plan is to have the last three books release in close fashion after that.
